A new app just arrived to make the lives of concrete contractors - and concrete pumpers - a little easier. Designed by Holcim, this FREE weatherAPP can help contractors plan accordingly to a four-day forecast of a building site's weather conditions. Developed using methods outlined in ACI 305, the weatherAPP not only displays expected weather conditions but also calculates the evaporation rate based on wind speed, relative humidity, air temperature and concrete temperature.

MIT researchers have found that a pavement property called “deflection” could save more that $15 billion in annual fuel costs.

Pavement deflection occurs when a car makes slight indentations in the road, from which it must constantly drive out of, and which then results in burning more fuel. The effect is similar to someone walking on sand: with each step, the person’s feet sink and create a dip.

Schwing America is pleased to announce the acquisition of management control of Concrete Pump Repair (CPR) through the purchase of 50 percent of the company’s shares. Effective December 1, 2012, Concrete Pump Repair, located in North Branch, Minnesota, will operate as a subsidiary of Schwing America, Inc., a subsidiary of Schwing GmbH. Gerhard Schwing will continue as the owner of the remaining 50 percent of the company’s shares.
