Largest Concrete Pump in Latin America Working in São Paulo Subway

A Putzmeister 63Z-meter truck-mounted concrete boom pump, considered the largest pump in Latin America, is placing concrete for the Moema station in Line 5 of the São Paulo Subway system. The pump was chosen by the engineering staff of the Consortium Helenus & Fonseca / Tiisa and tasked with transporting concrete to an average depth of 82 feet, the equivalent of an eight-story building.

The 63Z has a nearly 204-foot boom, which opens in a five-section, Z-fold formation to pump up to 175 cubic yards of concrete per hour. The pump is owned and operated by RentalMix.

The American Concrete Institute announces the availability of a new invaluable publication for concrete industry designers, suppliers, and contractors—Legal Issues in Concrete Construction, Second Edition, authored by by Jeffrey W. Coleman, P.E., FACI, attorney at law.

The author provides interpretations of the courts’ findings and contrasts the decisions with other results where possible. This second edition of Legal Issues in Concrete Construction contains over 150 cases—more than three times the number of cases as the first edition— and it assembles the cases into 23 chapters.

Putzmeister America, Inc. has announced significant upgrades to its Thom-Katt® Trailer Pump line. The TK 40, TK 50, TK 60 HP and TK 70 are the first models to feature a relocated fuel tank and a new control box with display. The fuel tank relocation will be featured on the single and tandem axle units and will allow for increased ground clearance. The new TKs will be able to go where previous models could not, allowing for better access over rugged or uneven terrain.

Shaun Nelson Named New Schwing Regional Manager

Nelson formerly filled the same position from 2000 through 2008 for Schwing. Alliance for California Business Victorious in Court Ruling

On November 28, 2014, a truck cab suddenly caught fire on Highway 101 in Los Angeles. The following day, onlookers at a truck stop in Natomas watched as flames from a parked burning big rig truck cab spread to two adjoining trucks, destroying all three vehicles. One day after that, at a fueling station in Dunnigan, another big rig truck cab burst into flames, resulting in the vehicle’s total loss and subsequent shutdown of the fueling station itself—fortunately without injury or loss of life.
