Putzmeister America, Inc. has hired Sebastian Vidal as president and CEO of its new operation in Mexico. As head of Putzmeister Mexico, a division of Putzmeister America, Vidal will be responsible for overseeing the establishment of a manufacturing plant based in Monterrey, Mexico, located approximately 125 miles from the U.S. border.
Westflex Inc. is pleased to announce the acquisition of Pipe Technology, Inc., a 33 yearold Los Angeles-based fabrication and distribution company specializing in concrete pump hose, fittings, pump parts, pipes and accessories. Pipe Technology was founded in 1981 by Denis Lootens and is a major national supplier to the concrete pumping industry. “I have enjoyed developing new products, especially for the small line pump community. Westflex will continue to serve the many friends I have made in the industry,” says Lootens.
Scott Anderson, Keyston Structural Concrete, LLC, Houston, Texas, has been elected first vice president of the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), St. Louis, MO for 2014. Rocky Geans, Mishawaka, Indiana; Chris Plue, San Mateo, California; and Thomas Zinchiak, Woodbine, Maryland were re-elected as vice presidents. Keith Wayne, Kannapolis, North Carolina was re-elected as treasurer; and William Bramschreiber, Glendora, California; Steve Lloyd, Forest, Virginia; and Scott Winkler, Hamilton, Ohio were re-elected as directors.
Putzmeister America, Inc. recognized three of its top domestic distributor partners with its annual Distributor of the Year awards at a special VIP event in Las Vegas during the 2014 World of Concrete trade show.
Pioneer Concrete Pumping, Inc. won Domestic Spare Parts and Pipe System Distributor of the Year; Thomas Concrete Machinery, Inc. won Domestic Thom-Katt Distributor of the Year; and Walker Equipment Company won Domestic Mortar Machine Distributor of the Year.
Schwing America has hired a new regional manager for South America. Octavio Perdomo Berdugo will represent the company’s line of concrete pumps, truck mixers, recyclers and batch plants in South America except for Brazil, where Schwing has a manufacturing plant. He replaces Jorge Beals who served for five years in the position.

Longtime ACPA supporter and 43-year veteran of the concrete pumping industry, Ed Lothamer was given the Tom Anderson Lifetime Achievement Award by Schwing. The award ceremony took place at World of Concrete 2014 in Las Vegas. Lothamer is only the eighth recipient of the Tom Anderson award honoring outstanding contributions to Schwing America and the concrete pumping Industry. Lothamer was a principal in Concrete Placement, Inc.
Putzmeister America, Inc. has hired Kevin Brost as a traveling technical services representative responsible for responding to customer requests for equipment service worldwide. In the role, he also will be conducting new machine in-service and operator training.
With more than 13 years of experience in the concrete industry, Brost was most recently involved in sales, operator training, and field service while working for a Putzmeister Telebelt® dealer. He also has experience with operations and maintenance.
Schwing has published a new brochure featuring the company’s line of separate placing booms for mounting on most any structure for high volume placement hundreds of feet from the pump. The 12-page brochure covers applications and advantages of the Schwing exclusive octagonal masts, including mounting choices and specifications. Schwing manufactures three separate placing boom sizes—28, 35 and 37-meters—as well as truck-mounted concrete pumps with detachable placing booms, the S 39 SX and S 41 SX.

The American National Standard for material placement system safety is ASME B30.27. (Material placement systems are concrete pumps and concrete conveyors.)
ASME has released B30.27-2014. It is currently available as an electronic download, and will be available in printed form after April 11, 2014. It becomes effective one year after the publication date.
The next phase of certification changes will begin June 1, 2014, with implementation of the new certification test—version 02.14—as well as an operational evaluation for first-time operators taking the certification test.
The ACPA kicked off its 40th anniversary year celebration with a cocktail party held in conjunction with World of Concrete at the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino on January 22, 2014.
As in most other places, the winter of 2014 has been long, damp and cold for Washington D.C., and the first green shoots of springtime are a welcome sight.
