Longtime ACPA supporter and 43-year veteran of the concrete pumping industry, Ed Lothamer was given the Tom Anderson Lifetime Achievement Award by Schwing. The award ceremony took place at World of Concrete 2014 in Las Vegas. Lothamer is only the eighth recipient of the Tom Anderson award honoring outstanding contributions to Schwing America and the concrete pumping Industry. Lothamer was a principal in Concrete Placement, Inc. for many years, pumping concrete in and around the Kansas City area, and now operates CPI, LLC, a Schwing distributorship in Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska.
Ed is well known for his playing history in the National Football League with the Kansas City Chiefs as a defensive lineman from 1964 to 1972. During that time Lothamer played in two Super Bowls and sold ready mix in the off-season. This led to a position in a concrete pumping business which culminated in Ed starting Concrete Placement Inc. Because of Ed’s business sense, hard work and engaging personality, CPI grew its fleet to more than 200 concrete pumps operating in nine cities across the U.S., and became the Schwing dealer in four states. CPI was a leading concrete pumping firm in the region and sold hundreds of Schwing concrete pumps to other contractors and pumpers.
Ed enjoyed pumping success on many major projects throughout his career, most notably the Dames Point Bridge, where CPI pumped 12,000cy and 18,000cy on consecutive weekends, with three pumps averaging 400cy per hour for 45 hours straight. Lesser known are Ed’s contributions to his community and industry. He has chaired the NFL Alumni Committee that raises money every year for the local children’s hospital in Kansas City. He served as president of the ACPA for two terms and was awarded the R.E. Henry Lifetime Achievement Award for his efforts in the association and the industry.
