Concrete pump drivers who operate only within a state under a state’s unique HOS regulations are only required to utilize an ELD if that state has adopted the federal requirement to apply to “intrastate” trucking operations. Texas adopted an intrastate mandate to begin in December of 2019. California is “talking” about a compliance date of January 1, 2021! If you operate exclusively within either of these two states’ borders under state HOS rules, no mandate applies for now and you can continue to use paper logs. Some states have adopted, by reference, the federal requirement to apply to their “intrastate” markets. You should check with your state police or highway patrol’s motor carrier unit to determine if an adoption has occurred.

ST. LOUIS, MO – The American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), St. Louis, MO, has partnered with the Construction Employers Association (CEA), Cleveland, OH, to provide ASCC contractor members services for silica sampling from SGS Galson, an industrial hygiene laboratory. The program is designed to develop an industry wide database of silica sampling information that can be utilized by participating members to develop an objective database of information concerning the type of mitigation activities and control necessary to comply with OSHA’s New Crystalline Silica Rule.
The fire, which drew more than 50 firefighters from 18 precincts, took a little more than an hour to knock down. However, in that time, the blaze, which reportedly was started by an improperly discarded cigarette, quickly swept through the complex – only stopping when it hit a firewall. Investigators are calling the building a total loss, leaving dozens of residents displaced.
The ACPA is dedicated to the education and promotion of concrete pump safety to the concrete pumping industry and for all those who come into contact with a concrete pump on a construction job. We're here to teach you how you, and others around you, can stay safer on the job.
Our instructors have over 50 years of combined concrete pumping experience.

The supervisory board of Putzmeister, a world-leading manufacturer of concrete pumps, mortar machines, mining equipment and thick matter pumps, hereby announces the termination of the contract with Dr. Karch by mutual consent. Following almost nine years as managing director of Putzmeister, Dr. Karch sees his task as fulfilled, after he assumed the role of CEO in 2013 at a time when the company was in a difficult economic situation.
Schwing’s newly expanded Comparable Pump Parts catalog is a quick-reference resource for customers who want to maintain their Schwing concrete pump with parts to assure reliability and uptime. “Every part of a concrete pump is vital to the performance of the machine,” explains Myron Birschbach, Schwing’s VP/GM Aftermarket Parts & Service. “And all parts are not created equal.”
Putzmeister America, Inc., has hired Drue Martinez to handle its West Coast parts and pipe sales. With 15 years of experience in the concrete placing industry, Drue most recently served as operations manager for Fleming and Sons.

The Atlantic hurricane season is back with a deadly vengeance. After 11 years of relative calm, two back-to-back Category 4 storms have inflicted significant damage on two of America’s largest metropolitan areas.
While Florida and the Houston area are continuing to recover, there is a lot to be thankful for. While the numbers have not yet been finalized as of this writing, the combined U.S. death toll for Harvey and Irma are likely to remain well below the 1,833 deaths caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Yes, the nature of the storms themselves is different and direct comparisons are risky, but there is no doubt that better planning this time around saved lives.
For concrete pumping businesses, recruiting new workers remains one of the biggest challenges. With this need in mind, ACPA implemented the Workforce Development Program in October 2016 to help members with their recruiting efforts. In its first year, the program has been active, seeking opportunities at trade shows, job fairs and via social media to promote career opportunities in the concrete pumping industry.
