Liebherr’s 42 M5 XXT Concrete Pump and Powerbloc Hydraulic Drive Make Their U.S. Debut

Liebherr introduced a completely newly developed 42 M5 XXT truck-mounted concrete pump and the new Powerbloc drive unit to the U.S. market at the 2020 World of Concrete show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 42 M5 XXT is powerful, versatile and compact, allowing the machine to work easily at constricted job sites. And with the Powerbloc, Liebherr has, for the first time, created a product that combines the best features of open and closed hydraulic systems.

2019 Contractor Safety Award

At their annual installation of officers, the Engineering Contractors’ Association (ECA) awarded Doug Marquis of Conco Pumping with their Personal Safety Award. Doug was recognized for his exceptional work in the construction field forwarding worker safety. His achievements include working with equipment manufacturers to improve the safety of boom pump operators in 2018. He improved their safety by collaboratively developing systems to create tie-off points when working on boom pumps. The tie-off points aid in fall prevention and related injuries.

Safety Culture and Concrete Pumpers: A Successful Mix

According to the National Safety Council (NSC), a “near miss” is an unplanned event that did not result in injury, illness or damage, but had the potential to do so. In fact, only a fortunate break in the chain of events prevented these things from happening.

“Surf’s Up” Cocktail Party

This year, the World of Concrete cocktail party went with another music theme—this time with a “Surf’s Up” motif. A DJ spun classic surfer music and clips of famous beach movies were shown on the big screen throughout the event.

Attendees donned straw hats and had their photos taken in a cut-out classic VW van emblazoned with the ACPA logo, all against a tropical backdrop. And what would the beach be without a margarita bar? Good times!

Washington Report: COVID-19 and the CARES Act

The novel coronavirus plaguing the world has generated an unprecedented response in its scope, size, and speed within Washington. Between March 6 and March 27, Congress passed, and the president signed, three laws to provide relief directly to individuals, businesses and local governments with a total price tag over $2.3 trillion. On March 13, President Trump declared a national state of emergency, which opened up to $50 billion in additional funding and regulatory waivers needed to allow swift government action. Many states have requested and received “major” emergency declarations from the White House, releasing even more resources and regulatory relief.

Longtime ACPA member, Max Bowman of Star Equipment. Ltd. passed away quietly this past Saturday. Max was one of the industry’s original pioneers of concrete pumping equipment and a Schwing dealer for well over 30 years.

Richard O'Brien

On March 21st, our industry lost one of its original “pioneers” with the passing of Richard O’Brien of O’Brien Concrete Pumping in Denver, Colorado. While many of you may have only know Richard for his emails and newsletter The Irish Dreamer, at heart he was a true champion of the industry devoted to educating pumpers on the value of their services and how to increase profits.
