Among the highlights of 2020 for the American Concrete Pumping Association was awarding the first Bob Weatherton Scholarships to two inspiring students. The scholarship is named in honor of the late “Big Bob” Weatherton of The Concrete Pump Store in California, who passed in 2016. Bob served on the ACPA Board of Directors for more than 40 years and is remembered as one of the industry’s most avid champions.

They simply log into the Schwing/service web page, register, and within a few days a login and password will be provided for unlimited access. The online parts catalog features search tools, zoom capabilities, interactive cursor with highlighted parts lists, downloadable schematics and the ability to save frequently ordered parts.
In response to numerous industry requests, the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) has announced plans to develop a new certification program for operators of concrete pumps. NCCCO is developing this program so that users can garner the same increased safety benefits that users of other equipment have seen through certification.

The American Concrete Pumping Association supports the highest standards for pump operator safety and all workers coming in contact with a concrete pump. As an extension of this commitment, the ACPA recently enhanced its Operator Training and Certification Program, which now includes an online safety training program. The online ACPA Operator Safety Presentation course satisfies the in-person requirement for ACPA Operator Certification 5.0.

When thinking about what to write for this issue, I kept coming back to, “What’s coming next?” This has been a tough year, with waves of major disruptors. Business needs certainty to plan for a strong future, and the country needs stability to support its citizens in their communities. The American people need stability and certainty to create a fruitful future for their families. Yet this year lacks both certainty and stability.
Special care must be taken to prevent hose whipping injuries when operating a concrete pump with a boom. This document focuses on the new hand signals of "move away from the hose" and "ok to approach the hose" and when those signals should be used.
