ACPA Members Speak: Concrete and COVID

Q: What has your experience as a concrete pumping company been like in 2020?

Managing the Risks of Work in a Post-COVID-19 World

As we all know, our world is responding to shifts in how we live and work resulting from the global coronavirus pandemic. Throughout the majority of this year, there’s been one challenge after another as companies have scrambled to adjust to a world where stay-at-home orders and social distancing initially brought business operations to a halt or reduced pace. Now they are forced to consider how to execute even the most routine of workplace tasks in the future.

Help Wanted

The ACPA is currently seeking qualified individuals to run for the 2021 ACPA Board of Directors election.

ACPA Awards Weatherton Scholarships

Among the highlights of 2020 for the American Concrete Pumping Association was awarding the first Bob Weatherton Scholarships to two inspiring students. The scholarship is named in honor of the late “Big Bob” Weatherton of The Concrete Pump Store in California, who passed in 2016. Bob served on the ACPA Board of Directors for more than 40 years and is remembered as one of the industry’s most avid champions.

Washington Report: Looking Back, Looking Ahead

As we prepare to leave 2020, the view in the rearview mirror is cloudy. By all measures, this has been a tough year. The upheaval to our way of life caused by the COVID- 19 pandemic—particularly the heavy cost to hundreds of thousands American families who lost loved ones—will continue through 2021. The medical community’s predictions of increasing infections and deaths are coming true. Dr. Fauci now says we may reach 500,000 COVID-19 related deaths by March 2021. Mitigation measures needed to limit the virus’s spread will continue to disrupt the economy. While it is hard to foresee recovery when still facing such hard times, the remarkable success seen in developing and approving a number of vaccines is a true bright spot. While it will take months to vaccinate enough Americans to create effective herd immunity and allow our society to start the recovery process, we can see the end from here.

One Contract. Four Lines of Defense.

If you’ve been in business for any length of time, you’ve likely heard about—or learned—one of the most important lessons there is to learn in the concrete pumping industry: If you have a claim, contract language can be the deciding factor in initiating complete risk transfer and suffering a policy limits loss.
