Due to expanding demand for Schwing’s Loop Belt product line, the company has appointed Dan McGiveron as a new sales/service representative. McGiveron brings extensive experience to the position with more than twenty years of conveyor sales and service experience, most recently with the former Loop Belt Industries, from whom Schwing purchased the Loop Belt product line in 2018. Prior to that position, McGiveron worked for Lang Equipment Sales, Wausau, Wisconsin.
Putzmeister America, Inc. has hired Tracy Turner as regional sales director North. In this role, Turner will be responsible for overseeing direct sales and dealer channel sales.
Turner has 20 years of experience in industrial sales and sales management. He began his career as a national account manager for Cintas Corporation, and most recently worked with Storage Battery Systems in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.
Krzysztof Jechorek has been added to the Schwing field service team, expanding the ranks of technicians to support customers with diagnoses, repair and inspection of their Schwing equipment. Jechorek brings more than four years of relevant experience with heavy machinery, including concrete pumps. His most recent experience was with a concrete pump manufacturer.
Conco Pumping recently received two different safety awards: the 2019 Albert H. Atwood Safety Achievement Award and the Southern California Contractor Association (SCCA) Zero Accidents 2018 award.
The Atwood Award was made on the basis of Conco’s diligent efforts over the course of four years to address the safety risk posed by the lack of fall protection systems on concrete boom pumps, separate placing booms and Telebelt mobile conveyors. As a prominent commercial concrete contractor, Conco was uniquely positioned to address the issue.
Putzmeister America, Inc. has received $10,260 in training grants from Racine County and the Wisconsin Regional Training Partnership. The funds will be invested in the company’s hands-on training for the electrical assembly department.
“Employees are Putzmeister America’s greatest asset,” said Mo Murray, senior human resources business partner at Putzmeister. “We take pride in investing in our talent, and we look forward to further developing the skills of our employees.”
Due to increased sales of Schwing concrete pumps, the company’s service department has added a certified boom inspector for customers in the Southeast U.S. Jim Indelicato will join the nationwide team of Schwing certified boom inspectors located throughout North America. He comes to the position with extensive welding experience—an important skill if a boom inspection reveals repairs are needed.
This past April 9th and 10th, a delegation of ACPA members traveled to Washington, D.C. to attend the 2019 Cement and Concrete Fly-In sponsored by the Portland Cement Association (PCA). In all, there were over 140 attendees representing various sectors of the concrete industry who participated in the opportunity to discuss key issues that impact the concrete and cement industries with many top federal officials and congressional offices.
Your association has been working towards improving and elevating the ACPA Operator Certification Program for over two years now. In July of 2017, we held a Safety Summit in which ACPA members gathered to discuss a vision for the future of ACPA safety training and certification. Since this time, there have been many meetings and discussions to get our wide-ranging membership to agree on the direction we should take with the program. Some favor a live training format, others prefer online and still others envision a third-party-accredited safety/training and certification program. Although the general consensus did finally concede that our industry is not quite ready for such stringent requirements as third-party testing and practical assessments, the mandate to “step up our game” is clear.

The second of two Democratic presidential candidate debates in June will be best remembered for Senator Kamala Harris’s “leg-sweep” of Joe Biden over his opposition to school busing in the 1970s. However, it was an exchange between moderator Rachel Maddow and former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper later in the evening which made my ears perk up.
We will soon be including an "On the Job" page in the Concrete Pumping Magazine featuring photos you submit of your concrete pumps in action on jobsites!
