In 2020, the ACPA was asked by the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) to participate in a project to build concrete homes in the U.S. for Habitat for Humanity (HFH). The idea was for ACPA members to donate their services; the members of NRMCA and the Insulated Concrete Forms Association (ICFMA) would donate the materials for the homes. For tax purposes, all ACPA members would receive a “donation in kind” document in exchange for their services. The idea was presented and approved by the ACPA Board of Directors. Other than member contributions, there was no financial requirement of the ACPA.
Although not the first time Minnesota-based ready mixed concrete and concrete pumping company Cemstone partnered with Habitat for Humanity, a recent project did mark the beginning of an exciting effort from these two organizations: a home using insulating concrete forms (ICFs) for the entire structure.
At January’s annual Concrete Industry Management (CIM) auction at the 2022 World of Concrete, a concrete pump stole the show. ACPA manufacturing member company Alliance Concrete Pumps, along with NorCal Kenworth and Kenworth Truck Company, donated a truck-mounted 38-meter concrete pump. One of the signature items in this year’s auction, the pump features a new, robust rotec pedestal and streamlined side panels and outriggers.
The ACPA announced the election of its new executive board at the ACPA Annual Meeting and Awards Presentation on January 19, 2022, in Las Vegas, Nevada during World of Concrete 2022. Elected to serve a one-year term, the newly elected Executive Board includes:
ACPA is excited to announce its new President Wayne Bylsma. Bylsma has more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry, specializing in concrete pumping and concrete manufacturing, with an emphasis in sales, marketing, customer relations and business development. Previously, Bylsma held the title of vice president of ACPA and has also served as chairperson of the ACPA Communications Committee since 2014.
The dazzling Vegas Strip skyline served as a stunning backdrop to this year’s ACPA cocktail party — fittingly called “Lights of Las Vegas” — which kicked off World of Concrete 2022.
Sight & Sound Events channeled the spirit of Sinatra and other iconic entertainers to set a vintage Vegas tone for the party, which was held on the rooftop terrace of the Las Vegas Convention Center’s West Hall on Tuesday, January 18.
The American Concrete Pumping Association is proud to announce Leighton Landreth, Dominick Willman and Shelby Willy as co-recipients of this year’s Bob Weatherton Scholarships. These inspiring students represent the same leadership and spirit exemplified by the late “Big Bob” Weatherton of The Concrete Pump Store in California. Bob served on the ACPA Board of Directors for more than 40 years and is remembered as one of the industry’s most avid champions.
