National Ready Mixed Concrete Association Delivers First-Ever State of the Industry

The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) delivered its first-ever state of the concrete industry in Houston, Texas, during the opening general session of its annual convention. The event focused on the gains the concrete industry has made over the last two years since launching Build with Strength, and more recently Pave Ahead.

Concrete Pump Repair Celebrates 30th Anniversary

Concrete Pump Repair (CPR), a Schwing company, is celebrating 30 years in business. The company’s facility, located 30 miles north of the Schwing plant, repairs, repaints, retrucks and refurbishes all brands of concrete pumps and also sells pre-owned units. Putzmeister America, Inc. recognized several of its domestic and international distributor partners with its annual “Distributor of the Year” awards at a VIP event in Las Vegas during the 2018 World of Concrete trade show in February.

Cole & Lambert, Inc. won Domestic Large Line Distributor of the Year; Thomas Concrete Machinery, Inc. won both Domestic Thom-Katt® Distributor of the Year and Domestic Spare Parts and Pipe System Distributor of the Year; Walker Equipment Company won Domestic Mortar Machine Distributor of the Year.

Phil Bailey Named CPR Remarketing Sales Representative

Phil Bailey replaces Carrie Swanson as the new Concrete Pump Repair (CPR) remarketing sales representative. Bailey is a 13-year employee who has worked in various capacities, including parts and sales. “Phil knows many of the customers he will be working with in pre-owned sales,” according to Jerry Anderson, Schwing vice president / GM of remarketing. “He really knows Schwing pumps, which is a huge advantage when recommending a used unit or refurbishing a customer pump.”

CIM Program Holds Record-Breaking Auction at 2018 World of Concrete

The National Steering Committee (NSC) for the Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program—a business-intensive program that awards students with a four-year bachelor of science degree in concrete industry management—raised more than $1.1 million in gross revenue at its annual auction, held in conjunction with the World of Concrete on Wednesday, January 24.

Georgia Bill Would Leave Savannah Exposed to Hurricane Threat

Legislation currently being considered by the Georgia State Senate – House Bill 876 – would, if signed into law, prevent cities like Savannah from enacting local measures to strengthen their building codes, whether it be for fire or safety reasons or ecological concerns.

Georgia Legislation Would Imperil Building Safety, Local Autonomy

The Georgia State Senate is now considering legislation – House Bill 876 – that would prevent cities and towns throughout the Peach State from enacting local measures to strengthen their building codes in part, because of fire and safety concerns.  The bill, which recently passed the Georgia House of Representatives and cleared the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, would cede authority away from local lawmakers toward Atlanta, limiting the critical decision-making power of those who understand the needs of their neighbors.

CPE America Announces Spring Training Schedule

In January 2018, CPE America began its training program for Everdigm Concrete Pumps. Coming this spring, there will a training course each month that is FREE for current CPE America customers and will offer special rates for guests. The course takes place over two days at the facility in Metter, Georgia.

Three More Philly Labor Groups Commit to Stronger Building Codes

Build with Strength, a coalition of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association consisting of civic organizations, fire service professionals, architects, engineers and industry experts committed to enacting safer and more sustainable building standards, is pleased to welcome three of Philadelphia’s top labor unions –– Local 592 (Cement Masons), Local 405 (Iron Workers), and the Philadelphia Metal Trades Council – as new members of the coalition.  The community labor organizations join a growing list of advocates that are working to ensure that the most vulnerable residents in cities such as Philadelphia have access to safe and secure housing.

Flames Quickly Consume Combustible Denver Apartment Complex Under Construction

More than 100 firefighters from the Denver Fire Department responded to a blaze at an apartment construction site a mile from the Colorado State Capitol building yesterday, raising questions, yet again, about the use of combustible materials in mid-rise residential housing projects.
