Pumpcrete, Toronto, Canada, recorded the largest continuous pour, pumping the next construction phase of a gravity base structure (GBS) that will eventually provide the foundation for an oil well platform in the Atlantic Ocean. The 65,000-cubic-yard pour, conducted over 35 days at one kilometer offshore, is the largest continuous pour of its kind.

Putzmeister America, Inc. has promoted Dave Wright to truck-mounted concrete pump product manager. In his new role, Wright oversees a group of engineers and is responsible for the product planning, engineering and improvements of the truck-mounted line of concrete pumping equipment. Additionally, he works with customers in various markets to help tailor equipment to meet their specific job site and regulatory requirements.
The Concrete Foundations Association (CFA) announced the 2015 award recipients at the CFA Convention 2015 in Williamsburg, Virginia, on July 24, 2015. Awards included Associate Member of the Year, bestowed upon Tom Oury, Schwing central regional manager.
Putzmeister America, Inc. has hired Tom Hagen as its used equipment manger, responsible for inventory and production management, and for working directly with customers on their orders.
Construction Forms Inc. has announced the hiring of Stefan Harbig as the new CEO of Esser-Werke GmbH in Warstein, Germany. Harbig joins Esser from Richter Chemie-Technik GmbH, where he was managing director. Harbig brings with him 20 years of engineering, sales and commercial leadership skills, along with his master’s degree in industrial engineering.
In August 2015, Putzmeister Mexico, a division of Putzmeister America, Inc., celebrated the opening of its new concrete transit mixer factory in Monterrey, Mexico, with an open house for customers, distributors, vendors and employees. The plant now serves as the primary concrete mixer manufacturing facility for the Americas.
Schwing is pleased to announce the addition of Eric Smith to the growing ranks of Schwing authorized boom field inspectors. Putzmeister America, Inc. has hired Carlos Moreno as operations manager at its new Houston sales and service facility. As operations manager, he will oversee the staff responsible for mounting and servicing concrete transit mixers and providing service on mixers and pumps.
Despite a distracting, yet somewhat entertaining Donald Trump rally on the steps of the Capitol, members of the ACPA visited Capitol Hill on September 9-10 to call on key members of the House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure and Ways and Means Committees to support legislation which would seek to correct unfair taxation of fuel consumed by concrete pumps.
It’s crunch time in D.C., as all of the unfinished legislative business piled up over the course of the year comes to a head. ACPA is making good progress on the Hill related to the overtaxing of concrete pumps for job site fuel use. For more information on that initiative, see the article on page 32 of this issue.
