Cemstone was recently recognized nationally for its commitment to environmental excellence. The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) presented the Commitment to Environmental Excellence — Central Region award to Cemstone for its Worthington, Minnesota ready mixed concrete plant. This marks the eleventh time since 2011, and ninth year in a row that a Cemstone plant has been recognized with this award.
The award competition recognizes producers for their outstanding contribution to protecting the environment and maintaining sound management practices in their operations. The program salutes companies that have not only met, but surpassed governmental compliance measures and demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through plant and staff investment. A panel of judges reviewed the entries’ plant images and narratives covering site aesthetics, environmental compliance documentation, training, water, and air quality management, returned concrete plans, community relations, concrete delivery, and plant sustainability practices.
The Worthington plant is committed to not only being an active member of the community, but to being a responsible steward of the land. Cemstone’s senior environmental specialist, Vanessa De La Vega Meza, said “In Worthington’s farmland, our concrete plant stands firm on values. Recognized with the Environmental Excellence Award, we’ve proven that our industry and the environment can thrive together. Committed to responsible practices, our concrete work speaks volumes about sustainability in rural Minnesota.”
