World of Concrete continued its support for the concrete industry’s legacy through its sponsorship of the 2022 Weatherton Presentation Award on Wednesday, January 19. World of Concrete welcomed students from California State University — Chico, Middle Tennessee State University, New Jersey Institute of Technology and Texas State University to present their industry papers at a competition on Monday afternoon.

World of Concrete established the Bob Weatherton Award to honor his contribution to the concrete industry. Weatherton was a catalyst of change supporting concrete, producers and engineers. World of Concrete hopes that Weatherton’s contribution will serve as an example to CIM students.

The Weatherton award included a $2,500 scholarship presented at the CIM National Board Meeting on Wednesday by Paul Goodfellow, Bob’s stepson.

This year’s winner of the Weatherton Award was Aubrey Miller, who attends California State University — Chico. Her presentation described her participation in three internships and student activities.

Concrete industry management (CIM) is a business program that has been developed specifically for the concrete industry to provide students with a four-year Bachelor of Science degree. The program gives students entering the concrete workforce industry experience early in their careers. CIM is a joint initiative of a growing number of universities supported by networks of local, state and regional concrete industry producers, suppliers and contractors that pledge their time, talent and treasure to support the development of each university’s CIM program.

World of Concrete’s Weatherton award is funded by WOC and is in addition to the award presented by the American Concrete Pumping Association.
