At more than 3,281 feet, the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia will be the tallest building in the world upon its scheduled completion in 2020. The observation deck, which offers a breathtaking view over the kingdom at a height of 2,067 feet, will break another world record. The skyscraper is part of a new urban development project in Kingdom City, in the North of Jeddah, and it will be constructed with Schwing concrete pumps and separate placing booms.
Schwing boom pumps were used to place the bored piles, which reach more than 400 feet deep to ensure a stable foundation. Four Schwing SP 8800 stationary pumps, with more than 600 hp each and maximum pressure of 3,523 psi, are pumping the concrete on the structure. A high-strength, self consolidating concrete will be used for the construction phase up to a height of approximatley 1,312 feet. The next construction phase extends up to a height of approximately 2,214 feet with a high-performance concrete, but with lower compressive strength. The final apex, constructed from steel elements, will be going up to the planned height of over 3,281 feet. The project also utilizes five Schwing separate placing booms, three SPB 35s and two SPB 30 booms that will attach to the climbing forms. Schwing has supplied more than 3,200 feet of pipeline system for the first phase, up to 656 feet.
