Another ACPA member has joined the pink parade of concrete pumps supporting breast cancer awareness. “Everyone knows someone who is affected by this disease,” says Marcus King, owner of Modern Concrete Pumping, Newington, Connecticut. In King’s case, it was an operator’s wife and a dispatcher at a ready mix plant who were affected, so Modern decided to order its Schwing S 20 boom pump painted pink. “Guys make fun of it until they realize they have someone in their lives who is fighting breast cancer.”
The company received television coverage on its NBC-affiliate station’s evening newscast; King was featured, explaining that for every yard of concrete this truck pumps, a percentage will be donated to the cause. “We wanted to show our support for our good friend Carol Corriveau, who is currently fighting breast cancer. So we put her name on the pump,” King mentions in his on-camera appearance.
The new S 20 with four-section, Double Z boom joins Modern’s 13-pump Schwing fleet. “The S 20 is very versatile; it’s booked every day,” reports Marcus’s dad, George. The machine’s boom features a total of 730 degrees of articulation with 270 degrees at both the third and fourth sections, allowing many possible configurations in confined spaces. The standard pump kit is the 2023-3 110/75 MPS with 130 cubic yards per hour output, operating through nine-inch diameter pumping cylinders.
