ACPA Introduces New Online Training for Operator Certification

The American Concrete Pumping Association supports the highest standards for pump operator safety and all workers coming in contact with a concrete pump. As an extension of this commitment, the ACPA recently enhanced its Operator Training and Certification Program, which now includes an online safety training program. The online ACPA Operator Safety Presentation course satisfies the in-person requirement for ACPA Operator Certification 5.0.

“In today’s world of online instruction and social distancing, online operator safety training is particularly timely for our concrete pumping companies,” says Doug Marquis of Conco Pumping in Concord, California, and chair of the ACPA Certification Committee.

What’s more, online training for operator certification is important to meeting all types of learning styles. “Everyone doesn’t learn the same way and at the same pace,” explains Marquis. “Some learn well in a classroom. Others learn best with repetition and visual and audible instruction. We’re pleased to meet operators’ needs through ACPA’s online Operator Safety Presentation.”

A potential cost-saver, online safety training also potentially reduces travel expenses for companies that would have flown employees to a city where training would be held. Depending on how the concrete pumping business operates, online operator training would be an ideal way for pumpers to spend downtime when they’re not able to pump due to weather or other schedule delays.

To develop the online training and certification program, ACPA contracted with ClickSafety, a leading provider of online learning management for the construction industry, to create an online portal for operator safety training and certification. Concrete pumping companies can purchase the ACPA operator safety training via the ClickSafety website at www.clicksafety.com/acpa. Operators and any other interested parties may log in with a user ID and password to the ClickSafety portal and attend the ACPA Operator Safety Presentation course.

To ensure security and high standards, the program utilizes voice recognition software to verify the participant remains engaged for the entire program. What’s more, biometric enhancements will be available to ensure the participant is the intended participant. Training is divided into modules, allowing participants to view the presentation at different times if desired.

At the conclusion of the Operator Safety Presentation, ClickSafety provides a link to the ACPA’s online testing site, where participants may complete the test for ACPA operator certification.

In addition to online training, ACPA continues to offer traditional methods of operator training:

Via the ACPA Authorized Training Administrator (ATA) program, a company may either designate an employee to go through the ACPA Train the Trainer course that teaches the proper way to administer the training and certification, or they may hire an ATA by contacting the ACPA National Office.

ACPA Operator Safety Seminars occur at different times throughout the year for in-person training. Contact the ACPA National Office for more info.

The Operator Safety Presentation is available at www.clicksafety.com/acpa in English and soon in Spanish at a cost of $165 for members and $330 for non-members. For more information about the ACPA online Operator Safety Presentation, please contact the ACPA National Office at (614) 431.5618.
