Tall Wood Opposition Call to Action

Tall Wood Opposition

In a few weeks, the International Council of Codes (ICC), the organization which develops model codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance of constructing safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient structures, will vote on proposed code changes which would allow wood to enter into the tall building market up to 18 stories.

Below is a link to the Tall Wood Opposition micro site. The site contains powerful data, materials and information which members are encouraged to use and help “spread the word” on the dangers of using CLT in tall buildings and to ultimately help persuade ICC voters to vote “NO” on adopting tall wood into the model building code.

Here’s what we need you to do:

  • Promote the website to your customers
  • Create posts or re-post, retweet and share ACPA posts on your social media pages
  • Mail, email or deliver in person, the “Scientific Rebuttal” and cover page to a potential ICC voter in your area (ICC voters typically include Fire Marshals, Building Inspectors and Government Officials); a list of potential voters in your area may be included; however, a simple Google search of “building code official” or “fire marshal” should give you their contact info. The exact number of validated ICC voters is somewhat unknown, but is estimated to be between 6,000 – 10,000 voters. Typically, only 10% of the voting body votes and a simple majority carries the vote. This dramatically draws down on the number of persons we need to sway the vote in our favor - every vote is crucial!

We must stop the ICC from adopting tall wood into the model building code before all the CONCRETE facts are heard!
