New DVD Fulfills ACPA Safety Training Requirement

Work continues on the final stages of the new ACPA Operator Safety Presentation DVD, which will become the mandatory education requirement beginning January 1, 2012 for all operators seeking ACPA certification or recertification.

The DVD is a narrated version of the “live” ACPA Operator Safety Seminar PowerPoint presentation and was designed to allow operators easier access to fulfilling the safety training requirement. Operators have the choice of either attending an ACPA Operator Safety Seminar or completing the DVD presentation program. The presentation contains individual segments on topics such as: before the job; pumping the job; hazards of the job; cleanout and maintenance; co-worker safety; and technical properties of concrete and how they apply to concrete pumping. A special segment specifically for line pump operation will also be included. Content of the presentation specifically focuses on the most common accidents with a concrete pump and how to avoid them.

Operators will be required to view each segment and take the corresponding quizzes. The operator, along with the supervisor, must sign an affidavit attesting to the completion of the program as a requirement for taking the certification test. The program is expected to take approximately four hours to complete, but does not have to be viewed all at one time.

The DVD is expected to be ready for purchase sometime this fall at a cost yet to be determined. Future plans include making the presentation into an online training version, tentatively available after the first of next year.
