SCHWING America recently held two real-world demonstrations of our new S 51 SX pump at our factory: one on August 15 and the other on September 15. SCHWING customers from around the country, as well as SCHWING employees, were invited to see the new SCHWING S 51 SX in action.
The S 51 SX features a five-section RZ5 placing boom with a 2525H-6 pump kit, and outputs 213 cubic yards per hour at 1,169 psi of pressure on concrete. The pump has an impressive vertical reach of 164’5” and a horizontal reach of 147’4”.
Concrete Pump Supply, an Atlanta-based company and member of the Concrete Pump Manufacturers Association (CPMA), announces their successful completion and ASME B30.27 certification as a concrete pumping systems manufacturer. Concrete Pump Supply has always produced high quality products that perform under the most tested of circumstances, but is now officially certified by the CPMA.
SCHWING America recently added two new employees to its dedicated service team, further growing the largest support staff in the industry.
Andrew Estes has joined the team as a boom inspector for the West Coast, and he is an experienced welder with American Welding Society certification. Boom pump inspections assure the longterm performance of SCHWING equipment.
The American Concrete Pumping Association is proud to present the 2023 recipients of the Bob Weatherton Scholarship: Leighton Landreth, Shelby Willy and Dustin Cook. These students embody the leadership and spirit that is integral to the legacy of the late “Big Bob” Weatherton of The Concrete Pump Store in California. Bob served on the ACPA board of directors for more than 40 years and was one of the industry’s most avid champions.
Amanda Mitchell has joined the ACPA management team as its new membership services coordinator. Amanda will be responsible for recruiting and onboarding new members and serve as committee coordinator for the ACPA Membership Committee. In addition, she will lend administrative support for the Bob Weatherton Scholarship Fund, ACPA Awards and ACPA’s popular “At the Hopper” roundtable discussions.
The American Concrete Pumping Association (ACPA) has been making great strides in building a more educated, safer workforce, not only for pumpers but also for the contractors and others who work with and around concrete pumps. We are pleased to provide the following updates that promise to enhance the industry’s level of training and safety in 2024.
Many people who got in the concrete pumping business are proud of the fact that they started from the ground up. A large percentage of concrete pumping business owners started their career by pumping concrete and then eventually bought one pump that over time led to a flourishing business with many pumps. We have many proud owners that know all the inner workings of pumps. When they go to trade shows, they crawl all over the equipment and ask questions about the mechanics of it that I will never understand.
Our industry lost one of its true pioneers with the passing of long-time ACPA member, Jim Kirkwood of Statewide Concrete Pumping in Columbus, Ohio. Jim owned one of the first, and largest, concrete pumping companies in the Columbus area and was widely respected amongst those in the concrete construction community. He received an ACPA Pioneer Award in 2000 and was well known for his candor and ability to tell colorful stories. Although Jim may have appeared tough on the outside, he was actually a kind and generous man who was always quick to help those in need.

Wisconsin-based commercial truck and equipment dealer Kriete Truck Centers today rolled out a “trailer” for Season 2 of its social media video series, Forward With Kriete. Like Season 1, which debuted in June of this year, the four new episodes celebrate individual customers and the essential role trucking plays in society.
Next year will be the ACPA’s 50th Anniversary! As a special tribute to pump operators, we’d like to recognize any actively working concrete pump operators who have 50 years (or more) service to our industry. Operators selected will be recognized at our Annual Membership Meeting held during World of Concrete, January 23rd in Las Vegas, Nevada.
