Putzmeister America, Inc. has hired Jay Lee as senior vice president of sales and service. Lee will work closely with the company’s sales and service teams to define future strategies, which will ensure Putzmeister continues to provide an outstanding level of products and services in the industry.
Joined by industry leaders including customers, association executives and vendors, Schwing America’s Monday night reception prior to World of Concrete 2017 saw a large turnout. “We built on last year’s success, and pre-orders suggest a strong 2017,” reported CEO Bill Murray, who addressed the crowded ballroom. Murray took the opportunity to thank everyone in the room for their loyalty and to introduce some new Schwing employees who were attending the show for the first time.
Putzmeister America, Inc. has named Felipe Hrdlicka as parts sales manager for Latin America and the Caribbean. In his new role, he will oversee parts sales for 19 countries in the region.
With more than 12 years of industry experience, Hrdlicka has worked for Putzmeister for the past seven years in both sales and service. He most recently served as technical director in the service department at Putzmeister Brazil. Prior to his time with Putzmeister, he worked for the exclusive Putzmeister dealer in Brazil.
Schwing announced the Stationary Pump Dealer Sales Awards at the 2017 World of Concrete in Las Vegas. The SP line includes concrete pumps with outputs to 118 cubic yards per hour. Units are sold with electric or diesel power (including Tier 4), mounted on skids, trailers or trucks. The top three dealers for the SP line were honored at the Schwing reception held on the Monday prior to the show. First place went to Redwood Empire Concrete Pumping Equipment, Santa Rosa, California. The second-place award was given to Gordy’s Equipment of Broward, Inc., Pompano Beach, Florida.
Putzmeister America, Inc. has hired Brian Kent as East Coast sales representative for the company’s parts and pipe technology divisions. In the role, he will support Putzmeister’s distributors on the East Coast and work with them to serve parts and pipe customers.
With 20 years of experience in the concrete and materials pumping industry, Kent most recently conducted field training and pump support for a concrete pumping company in Pennsylvania. There, he operated pumps to install self-leveling cements and trained others on pump operation safety. He is also a U.S. Navy veteran.
As you will have read elsewhere in this edition, we recently won our effort to change DOT Hours of Service regulations to provide relief for the concrete pumping industry. This result is a direct outcome of a comprehensive review of HOS regulations initiated by ACPA in 2015. I am extremely pleased with DOT’s decision and see it as a first step in a longer- term push for regulatory relief for the concrete pumping industry.
The provision is valid for two years, and DOT may extend it for a third year by request. However, Congress must enact legislation to make the exemption permanent. ACPA has identified other areas where changes to DOT regulations could provide significant regulatory relief for the industry.
At the ACPA Annual Meeting and Awards Presentation, held January 18 in Las Vegas in conjunction with the World of Concrete, the ACPA announced the election of its new Executive Board. Elected to serve a one-year term, the newly selected Executive Board includes:
2017 Operators of the Year: Daniel Bremmer and Hector Diaz
Each year, the ACPA recognizes an operator for excellence in concrete pumping and safety. This year marks the first time the ACPA Awards Committee selected two equally qualified operators to receive the Operator of the Year award.
Can You Afford to Pay OSHA 78 Percent More? According to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), inflation can be defined as the overall general upward price movement of goods and services in an economy.
ACPA's recent advocacy efforts led to a major victory with hours-of-service regulations. Now, concrete pump operators may count on-duty time toward the required 30-minute rest break in hours-of-service regulations for interstate commercial motor vehicle drivers. On March 21, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation announced its acceptance of the ACPA's request for an exemption to the 30-minute rest break.
