2 People Injured in Fire That Consumes 22 Units

Silver Spring, MD—Two people – a resident and a firefighter – were treated for non-life-threatening injuries early Friday morning after flames engulfed a three-story, wood-framed condominium complex in Annapolis, Maryland shortly before 1 a.m. The 3-alarm fire, which took 60 firefighters about 90 minutes to contain, displaced dozens of residents as 22 units are now unlivable.

Witnesses describe the flames as “horrible,” as fire crews were forced to rescue several residents during the overnight incident.

ASCC and CEA Partnership

ST. LOUIS, MO – The American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), St. Louis, MO, has partnered with the Construction Employers Association (CEA), Cleveland, OH, to provide ASCC contractor members services for silica sampling from SGS Galson, an industrial hygiene laboratory. The program is designed to develop an industry wide database of silica sampling information that can be utilized by participating members to develop an objective database of information concerning the type of mitigation activities and control necessary to comply with OSHA’s New Crystalline Silica Rule.

3-Alarm Blaze Leaves Lincoln, Nebraska, Apartment Complex A Total Loss

The fire, which drew more than 50 firefighters from 18 precincts, took a little more than an hour to knock down.  However, in that time, the blaze, which reportedly was started by an improperly discarded cigarette, quickly swept through the complex – only stopping when it hit a firewall. Investigators are calling the building a total loss, leaving dozens of residents displaced.

Putzmeister Hires Drue Martinez for West Coast Parts and Pipe Sales

Putzmeister America, Inc., has hired Drue Martinez to handle its West Coast parts and pipe sales. With 15 years of experience in the concrete placing industry, Drue most recently served as operations manager for Fleming and Sons.

Drue began his career in 2003 as a laborer with Brundage-Bone. He has progressed since then by learning about concrete placing equipment and related products, both on the job and by completing all Putzmeister and competitor service school educational programs.
