ASCC First New Owner Safety Award

ST. LOUIS, MO – The Safety and Risk Management Council (SRMC) of the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), St. Louis, is pleased to announce that Keith Wayne, president/CEO of Wayne Brothers, Inc., Davidson, NC, is the first recipient of a new safety award, the ASCC Member Owner Safety Award, presented September 15 at the association’s Annual Conference in Minneapolis.  The purpose is to annually recognize one owner/executive of a contractor member company that displays a clear focus and passion for safety, and provides the leadership that creates a best-in-class safety culture.

Wayne Bros. works over 800,000 manhours annually.  For the past three years they have had an RIR of 2.68 and an average EMR of 0.91.  Since August 31, 2015 the company worked 600,610 hours and eight months without an accident.  In nominating their boss, Wayne Bros.’ employees wrote, “Over the past nine years, Keith Wayne has worked to implement new safety initiatives, policies and procedures to ensure that safety is the #1 priority on all projects.”

Wayne Bros. also received an ASCC Fleet Safety Award the same evening, for driving 2,032,937 miles with zero accidents.

The new award is in keeping with Goal #1 of the ASCC Strategic Plan: Increase the Number of Contractor Member Owners Who Truly Demonstrate a Personal Commitment to Safety.

“Strong safety cultures thrive in an organization where leaders take an active role,” says Scott Greenhaus, SRMC council director.  “Contractor member owners that understand this know that building a true safety culture begins and ends with them: the priorities they set, the choices they make and their expectations of others.  It requires effort and commitment from the top, but employees will tell you that it makes a difference.”

The Safety and Risk Management Council (SRMC) is a specialty council dedicated to making ASCC contractors the safest in the industry.  The Council board consists of safety and insurance professionals from all aspects of the concrete contracting industry.  The group meets three times a year and spends countless additional hours overseeing safety matters for the organization.  Council activities include publication development, review and monitoring of ASCC events and materials for safety compliance, member education, a safety awards program, and a safety/insurance hotline.

The ASCC is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the capabilities of those who build with concrete, and to providing them a unified voice in the construction industry.  Members include concrete contracting firms, manufacturers, suppliers and others interested in the concrete industry, such as architects, specifiers and distributors.  There are approximately 650 member companies in the United States and 14 foreign countries.  For more information visit the web site at www.ascconline.org or call (866) 788-2722.
