Certification Changes Continued...

The next phase of certification changes will begin June 1, 2014, with implementation of the new certification test—version 02.14—as well as an operational evaluation for first-time operators taking the certification test.

Certification test 02.14 is a complete overhaul of prior test versions, with changes and additions to each certification classification section, but continues its primary focus on the most common cause of accidents with a concrete pump. There are five different versions of the test, identical in content; but with randomized questions to ensure a greater level of comprehension of an operator’s own knowledge. Each test is pre-numbered and must be paid for in advance prior to testing; however, some exceptions may apply for operators testing at an ACPA operator safety seminar. Any old versions of the certification test will not be accepted after June 1, 2014.

An operational evaluation will need to be conducted by an authorized company representative (ACR) who must attest that the operator has satisfactorily completed various tasks associated with operating a pump such as: properly setting outriggers; unfolding the boom; and use of the equipment’s controls. The affidavit is contained within the certification test and must be completed before processing.

The new software grading and reporting program will also allow a company to download the operator’s test results and duplicate copies of an operator’s certification card. The ACPA will still issue the laminated certification cards and hard hat stickers upon processing.
